Major General Jones resides in Apollo Beach, Florida, and is an independent management consultant, as well as a Member of The SPECTRUM Group in Alexandria, Virginia. At SPECTRUM, he co-leads their Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) practice, as well as leading consulting teams for BRAC-related, information technology, and energy clients. He also provides consulting services to variety of other corporate clients, principally in the Federal and Defense market.
Prior to his consulting work, he served for 34 years in the U.S. Army. His assignments included a wide variety of command and staff positions in Armor units in the United States and Germany. His major deployments include OPERATION JOINT ENDEAVOR to Bosnia in 1996, where he served as the Operations Officer for the 1st Armored Division and Multinational Division North. He also deployed to Iraq twice as part of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM. From 2004-2005 he was Assistant Division Commander for the 1st Cavalry Division, responsible for combat operations and forming and training Iraqi security forces in Baghdad, and again in 2007-2008 as Commander, Civilian Police Assistance Training Team, responsible for developing the Ministry of Interior and Iraqi police and border forces. As a general officer, in addition to his tours in Iraq, Major General Jones was responsible for military planning and strategy for the Middle East as the Deputy Director, Strategic Plans and Policy for the Joint Staff in the Pentagon from 2005-2007. He also served from 2008-2010 as the Director of Operations for United States Central Command, responsible for U.S. military operations in the Middle East and Southwest Asia. His last active duty assignment was as the Chief of Staff, United States Central Command from 2010 to 2011.
Major General Jones is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the Army War College, and has a Bachelor’s Degree from Carson Newman College and a Master of Science degree from the University of Southern California. Since retirement from the military, he has also served on several non-profit boards, including Remember, Honor, Support and In Gear Career, and is an adjunct professor at Carson Newman University.
